Practice animation

This was my first try at animating with 2-d images to try and make them look 3-d but at the same time keeping the photo based novelty with the cutting of the page.

Rule of Thirds

This is my interpretation on the rule of thirds. I have illustrated this by outlining where they on the original picture and then highlighting the particular point of interest. This is an old picture i have taken and have applied this technique without thinking or knowing that it existed. This tells me that the rule of thirds is a natural response to the eye in gaining the most interesting image and ever since learning what it is i will take it into consideration when recording any sort of image.

Animation No. 1

This is my first full 30 second animation after having done a few practice animations. There are things i like about it and things i know i can improve on in time to come. I found it really hard to get the movement smooth. This is due to a lack of images between movements. You can see this clearly as the transitions are quite weak. Saying this there are some parts that i think work for example when i make the page move and the character stays still in the frame. In conclusion, I like my piece but i can definitely do better.

My Design Process

This is my design process based on the design of a chair later to be prototyped.

Research Tasks
I will usually base my work on that of another artists or designer. In this case it was Arne Jacobsen. My first step was to look at all of the work that he had done and think about what I could do to make my work more innovative and have my own influence. I would do this by using brain storms and mind maps to compare the designers work and my ideas.
Surveys from the public whether its via post, email or face to face have always been a good method of learning the consumer wants and needs. It also narrows down how i need to design to meet the markets specifications.
After gaining a brief idea of what sort of chair i want to create i will make a flow chart of the next steps in my process.
I will create a design specification of all the vital sections i need to think about. These may include a timetable, ergonomics, budget ect.

Design
Preliminary design will start on paper with a pencil including the full product and close-up images of functionality. I will try to design as many chairs as possible and pick one that is most aesthetically pleasing and has the best function.
Once i have chosen a design to take forward, i will draw it up digitally with accurate measurements in both 2-D and 3-D. The 3-D Allows me to look around the design to see any flaws i can work on. With 2-D i will use it to make a flat model to make sure that it works as i wish. Take this further i will make a 3-D model to really test it.

Feedback
Throughout the design process i will keep asking the public and peers whether they like my design or if they can find any obvious flaws. These issues will be addressed and doubled back onto my design process.
I will also analyse my work relating back my specification.

The Build
Linking back to my research, i would have checked out all the possible materials for my chair thinking about durability, aesthetics and expenses. The wood for my chair was reasonably expensive so instead of cutting straight into the wood expecting it to be right first time i made a template with a less expensive material. I then go on to use the template onto the really thing, cut all the pieces i need out, finish them then connect them.

Analysis
This is where i look at my finished product and refer back to my preliminary ideas to compare and contrast. This sometime tells me if i have gone off on a tangent through all the previous stages. Or that i have stuck to my plan but it hasn't turned out quite as expected. I will then test the chair as a product to the public. This will include ergonomic surveys and aesthetic. Any feedback will be taken into consideration for a future build or any design i may be taking up.
